A collaboration of Professional Energy Assessors

In the beginning

Pro DEA started as a working group Chaired by Charlotte Lawrance. Like many of us she was appalled at the low standards and poor practices of some within the industry – by training providers, assessors and accreditation bodies alike. This, combined with the dire state of the property market, was driving fees and morale down.

Charlotte initially posted a wish list on an industry forum and asked energy assessors to join together to help make that wish list a reality and create a better industry. That post gathered a lot of support and a small group of like minded individuals realised that there was a need for a new and different kind of organisation to support and represent energy assessors. The organisation needed to be open and trustworthy, with the needs and wishes of its members at its core, involving them at every turn.

The Pro DEA Working Group was created by a number of committed and proactive energy assessors who spent many months researching the industry and consulting with energy assessors and industry bodies as to the best way forward. An initial achievable set of aims were developed, along with a strategic plan as to how to reach those aims.

The launch of Pro DEA

Harnessing the different skills of the working group helped to create Pro DEA, a not for profit organisation set up as a community interest company limited by guarantee. This means that any profits will be ploughed back into the organisation and used to provide member benefits and develop the organisation further.

The organisation will be run by a board of directors, who receive no pay for their time, and a separate members' focus group to advise the main executive board. This group will be made up of member representative from around the regions and will aid communication and decision making on how Pro DEA develops. Please view our Constitution for a full over view of our structure and management. This document will also outline the democratic nomination procedures and terms of office for board members.

Our future is your future

Pro DEA will continue to be managed by energy assessors, for energy assessors. We will be open and transparent and develop lines of communication throughout our membership and to the wider industry. Our future development will be governed by the input from our membership as only by listening to our members can we provide a voice for Pro DEA.

Ultimately, with your support, we aim to develop Pro DEA as a quality mark within the industry, providing the improvements in standards, service delivery and fees that were at the heart of the original wish list.
